There are not many times in my rather hectic life that I get an opportunity to just relax. Usually even my annual leave is filled with lots of things to do and appointments to attend to.

This week, though, I find myself with a couple of days to just relax. So what have I done this far.

Firstly I have watched a lot of episodes of ‘Psych’. The comedy/detective show meld is not usually one that I would watch but this show is so-o-o funny and provides a pure escapism that provides humour while also allowing me the pleasure of a detective-type plot.

I’ve done my tax return, which was, as always, quite stress-free as I always have everything organised to deal with this.

I have started a jigsaw puzzle, that may take me a while to finish as it’s got lots of similar-looking bits in it.

And I have read Stephen Fry’s autobiographical ‘The Fry Chronicals” which is a delightful read.

It is surprising how much you can do when you have time to do things just for yourself.

The next two days are also days for rest and relaxation, then the merry-go-round will speed up as we enter the days of lead-in to my son’s wedding. Rehearsal, dinner, dinner and then the wedding will occupy much of my time for a few days as the family gathers for the festivities.

Then there will be one more day to rest before my return to work heralds another spate of projects and activities.

I imagine that within a very short time all memory of this brief period of rest and relaxation will dim in the chaos and pressure of work. But then I enjoy the challenges of work as well.

As both my other married children were married while on holidays abroad, this will be the first time that I have been the parent of the newly-weds at this sort of thing. I am sure that tears will be shed but they will be tears of joy.
