Sometimes things just seem to fall into place at a time when they are most needed.  After a few weeks of sadness over closures, this week has been one of successes. They might not be exciting to everyone but they certainly were for me and for those I work with.

Many months ago we began to develop new courses to add to the range we offered at my workplace.  We submitted a huge pile of paperwork and then we waited, and waited, and waited.

Months went by and then some inefficiencies at the accrediting body meant that we thought we were not going to get most of our new courses approved. Desolation was hovering, ready to swoop on us.

Then on Monday we received an email saying that one of the courses had been approved.  Excitement level 1. This was followed very soon after by another email telling us that another of the courses had been approved. Excitement level 2. Later in the day we heard that a further thirteen courses had been added.  Excitement level through the roof!!.

All this, and the week was only just starting.

Tuesday we had a very successful Open Day at our college. Lots of planning goes into this and there is always a fear that none of the students will want to talk to the institutions we have invited.  It’s a great relief when it goes well.

Tuesday night I went out for dinner with some colleagues. Not too late a night but certainly a lovely meal and good company.

Wednesday started with a surprise and a disappointment.  Phone call from Four Seasons Hotel chain in the USA to say I had won a trip to Florida and the Bahamas.     They were a bit confused when I said that I hadn’t entered their competition and that I didn’t wan to go to Florida or the Bahamas.  I was disappointed that it was non-transferable so they couldn’t let me transfer it to my daughter. Sadly I had to decline their prize and asked them to re-draw the sweep.  I think they were more than a little taken aback, but that many hours in a confined space would be my idea of hell on earth. So a surprise for both parties I think!  Someone else would have gotten a happy surprise later in the week when the Four Seasons contacted them. And it was exciting to hear that I had won, even though I couldn’t use the prize.

Thursday was full of mundane things but still great things were achieved.  It was a little sad to be sorting through all the resources from the high school but they are now ready for packing to be donated to a school in a disadvantaged area.  Just have to find one to donate them to. Thursday night I slept soundly as I had done the equivalent of four hours of weights training moving all the resources around.

Friday we had a long 5-star lunch to celebrate our new courses.  This was a great way to end the week.

I think this was the best working week I have had for a long time.  Success always feels satisfying, no matter how trivial the success may seem to others.
