Each year at Christmas I take a few minutes to watch this clip.  The Bing Crosby specials were a part of my childhood and I still find joy in watching them with my daughter on Christmas Eve.  This clip is a special favourite for both of us.

“Little Drummer Boy” was written in 1941, but the Peace on Earth counterpoint was added for the Crosby/Bowie performance on Bing Crosby’s 1977 Christmas special, which was actually recorded in October. Sadly, Bing passed away before the special aired. It was an unusual pairing between the music legend that was Bing Crosby and David Bowie, the singer best known at the time for his Ziggy Stardust persona, but it worked beautifully. Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly re-enacted the clip exactly but in my heart the original will always be special.  It may not have been a best-seller like Crosby’s White Christmas, which I also love but for me it is as much a part of the Christmas tradition.

Having mentioned ‘White Christmas’ I feel I should also share this clip.
